Catherine Bilton graduated from Cardiff University in 2018 with first-class honours in her Bachelor of Music degree. She was a first-study soprano, under the tutelage of Helen Field.
Catherine was a member of the BBC National Chorus of Wales since 2015, performing regularly at St David's Hall, as well as performing Beethoven's 9th Symphony at the BBC Proms in 2017. She participated in several masterclasses in the School of Music held by Alexander Sprague, Nicky Spence and Dame Felicity Lott.
Since graduating, Catherine has become of member of Pippa Dames-Longworth's Singing Salon Opera Group. Catherine teaches singing and piano and performs regularly around Hampshire, Surrey and Sussex.
Catherine started singing at the age of 16 with Melanie Stephenson. Over the years, Catherine has developed a sophisticated and intuitive approach to rehearsing and performing, specialising in operatic arias and art song, as well as employing precise diction to display the colour of both English and European languages. Catherine particularly enjoys singing Mozart, Brahms and Poulenc.
As well as arias and art song, Catherine enjoys popular music and is able to adapt her voice to suit a wide range of genres, including folk, jazz, pop and musical theatre. Performing in venues from Clwb Ifor Bach to Portsmouth Cathedral, Catherine employs stylistic sensitivity to all of the songs she performs and has an extensive, varied repertoire to suit any occasion.
Catherine's voice is ideal for any occasion. She has performed at weddings, birthdays and various other festivities in both large cathedrals and intimate chapel settings. As well as her own repertoire, she is always happy to learn and perform new songs and pieces to suit your special event. Bookings start at £100, and is dependent on your specific requirements. Singing and Piano Lessons
Catherine meets the teaching needs of her students based on their age, voice type, vocal quality and their preferred genres. She believes that a classical background is very beneficial for any well-developed singing voice, although Catherine thoroughly enjoys working with pupils on any repertoire of their choosing, including jazz, musical theatre and pop.
Having attended many singing masterclasses at Cardiff University, BBC Cardiff Singer of the World, AOTOS (Association of Teachers of Singing) and with Mary King, Catherine shows a sensitive insight into the vocal needs of a singer, using various techniques to bring out wonderful qualities in all voices. Catherine enjoys working to develop both the singer's voice and their passion for all kinds of music.
Catherine also teaches piano up to grade 5 standard - idea for anyone looking for an excellent start in their instrumental musicianship.
Lessons are £30 an hour, and £26 an hour for under 15s. Half hour lessons are also available. Catherine teaches from her home in Havant and is also able to teach in Portsmouth. She is happy to travel to her pupils who have a piano or keyboard. This may include a travel fee subject to distance.
