Catherine Bilton graduated from Cardiff University in 2018 with first-class honours in her Bachelor of Music degree. She was a first-study soprano, under the tutelage of Helen Field.
She participated in several masterclasses around the UK held by Mary King, Nicky Spence and Dame Felicity Lott.
Since graduating, Catherine has become of member of Pippa Dames-Longworth's Singing Salon Opera Group. Catherine teaches singing and piano and performs regularly around Hampshire, Surrey and Sussex.
Since 2020, Catherine has been taking commissions for paintings in oils and digital prints.
Catherine started singing at the age of 16 with Melanie Stephenson. Over the years, Catherine has developed a sophisticated and intuitive approach to rehearsing and performing, specialising in operatic arias and art song, as well as employing precise diction to display the colour of both English and European languages. Catherine particularly enjoys singing Mozart, Brahms and Poulenc.
Singing and Piano Lessons
Catherine meets the teaching needs of her students based on their age, voice type, vocal quality and their preferred genres. She believes that a classical background is very beneficial for any well-developed singing voice, although Catherine thoroughly enjoys working with pupils on any repertoire of their choosing, including jazz, musical theatre and pop.
Having attended many singing masterclasses at Cardiff University, BBC Cardiff Singer of the World, AOTOS (Association of Teachers of Singing) and with Mary King, Catherine shows a sensitive insight into the vocal needs of a singer, using various techniques to bring out wonderful qualities in all voices. Catherine enjoys working to develop both the singer's voice and their passion for all kinds of music.
Catherine also teaches piano up to grade 5 standard - idea for anyone looking for an excellent start in their instrumental musicianship.
Lessons are £30 an hour, and £26 an hour for under 11s. Half hour lessons are also available. Catherine teaches from her home in Havant and is also able to teach in Portsmouth. She is happy to travel to her pupils who have a piano or keyboard. This may include a travel fee subject to distance. Since COVID-19, Catherine is also able to teach on Zoom.
